AMSTERDAM (dpa)- A spokeswoman for Fortis NV on Monday denied rumours that its plans with Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and Banco Santander to take over Dutch ABN AMRO might be in danger.

British media on Sunday reported RBS shareholders allegedly requested the bank to lower its bid.

Merril Lynch, who co-finances the bid, was quoted as demanding better conditions for services it provided.

But on Monday a Fortis spokeswoman said there was no reason to worry.

"The situation is unchanged," she said, denying rumours that Merrill Lynch had plans to withdraw from the deal.
