Fortis saw a loss of nearly 19 billion euros in 2008.

AMSTERDAM -- The Fortis banking and insurance company, which was nationalised by Belgium last year, has announced that it probably saw a loss of nearly 19 billion euros in 2008. The company says the loss is mostly due to the sale of ABN Amro and the break-up of the former Dutch-Belgian parent company.
