Flights to Maastricht Aachen Airport diverted

Flights to Maastricht Aachen Airport have been diverted to Schiphol. The airport in the Province of Limburg has been closed since Thursday evening due to snow and strong winds.

The airport authorities will review the situation in the early afternoon. According to a spokesperson for the airport it is uncertain whether it can reopen because of the poor condition of the runways.

In some places up to 40 centimetres of snow has fallen in Limburg, severely disrupting traffic. Busses are not running and lorry drivers have been told not to take to the roads.
