26 June 2007, THE HAGUE – The Royal Marechaussee have arrested five soldiers suspected of assaulting at least six men at a parking lot on the A12 between Arnhem and Ede two weeks ago.

THE HAGUE – The Royal Marechaussee have arrested five soldiers suspected of assaulting at least six men at a parking lot on the A12 between Arnhem and Ede two weeks ago.

All five suspects have been questioned and have confessed, a spokesperson reports. The soldiers, ranging in age from 19 to 22, have been released but have been suspended.

The assault came to light when one of the suspects was arrested for violating the law on weapons and ammunition. After this arrest, the other suspects were taken in.

Flyers have been distributed in the area around parking lot the Ginkelse Zand calling on victims and witnesses to report to police. One victim has reported so far.

This is the second violent incident involving military personnel in recent months.
