AMSTERDAM — MP Laetitia Griffith has been nominated as the new finance and economic affairs alderwoman in Amsterdam.
She is set to replace Frits Huffnagel who resigned earlier this month after failing to report EUR 20,000 in expenses to the tax office.
Amsterdam City Council must vote on her nomination on 1 June, newspaper 'NRC' reported on Tuesday.
Besides her appointment as finance alderwoman, Griffith will also be appointed as the leader of the Amsterdam branch of the Liberal Party (VVD) for the municipal council elections next year.
If party members back her leadership nomination in September, Griffith will become the first black, female election leader in Amsterdam.
