AMSTERDAM — Groningen Court was evacuated and nearby streets sealed on Wednesday morning after a suspicious package was found. Experts with the bomb disposal squad EOD later said the package contained fireworks.

The court was evacuated at about 8am, but was given the all-clear at about 10.15am. Besides the fireworks, a suspicious letter was also found inside the court, located on the Nieuwe Boteringestraat.

Police and the EOD have launched an investigation into the incident. The investigation will also examine if there is a link between the two discoveries.

There were very few people in the building when the alarm was raised and people waited quietly outside as authorities carried out their work. Almost every court hearing was resumed when the all-clear was given.
