AMSTERDAM — The man arrested in Rotterdam last week after unstable explosives were found in his home was a fireworks enthusiast, his lawyer has claimed.

The authorities suspect the man of violating the Weapons and Munitions Act but no details have been released on the type of materials discovered in his home or what he intended to do with them.

Three other people arrested in connection with the find have been released.

The police swooped on his house after receipt of a tip from the crime-stopper's phone line 'Meld Misdaad Anoniem'.

The area around the man's home was evacuated and a bomb disposal expert removed explosives and destroyed them in a controlled explosion. Investigators found a second batch of explosives later.
