Finance minister hopes banks start lending again

All Dutch banks are going to make use of the government's 200 billion euro guarantee.

THE HAGUE - Finance Minister Wouter Bos has made agreements with the banks to stimulate lending between banks.

Some banks will borrow money, others will lend money with government guarantees.

Rabobank, which belongs to the latter group, says it can get hold of money without the government guarantee.

Up to now, only car lease company Leaseplan and business bank NIBC had reported to the minister to take advantage of the offer.

As a result lending between banks had stagnated.

Minister Bos hopes that if the banks start lending to one another again, it will be easier for businesses to borrow money.
