Sunday’s Premier League action saw Feyenoord suffer a shock 6-0 away defeat at the hands of FC Groningen while AZ Alkmaar only just managed to increase their lead at the top of the table in a last-minute win over Heracles Almelo

After a mere 18 minutes FC Groningen were up 3-0 thanks to goals by Dusan Tadic, Maikel Kieftenbeld and Petter Andersson. In the second half, Leandro Bacuna, Virgil van Dijk and Hyun-Jun Suk extended their lead all the way to 6-0, FC Groningen’s biggest victory ever over Feyenoord.

Premier League leaders AZ barely managed to extend their lead over PSV and FC Twente in a scrappy 1-0 away win over Heracles Almelo. Thanks to a late goal by Adam Maher, a mere minute before the end, AZ are now six points ahead of their nearest rivals, who both have 22 points.

Vitesse maintained its position in the upper regions of the table after defeating De Graafschap. The mediocre match’s only goal was scored on 20 minutes by Nicky Hofs.

Further down the table, NEC, who had suffered a string of six consecutive losses, finally succeeded in securing a victory, beating FC Utrecht 3-1. Just three minutes into the game, Lasse Schöne converted an opportunity created by a blunder of FC Utrecht goalkeeper Junior Fernandez. A few minutes later Leroy George extended their lead to 2-0. On 74 minutes, Leroy George saw his free-kick rattle the cross-bar with the ball then still hitting the net after bouncing off Fernandez’s back. A little later, Jacob Mulenga grabbed FC Utrecht’s single goal by converting a penalty.
