Feyenoord pledges faith in Been
Feyenoord coach Mario Been went back to work as usual on Monday morning, following the Rotterdam club's crushing 10-0 defeat at the hands of PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.
Speaking on the TV programme on Sunday evening, Feyenoord's general director Eric Gudde insisted the coach could still count on the full support on the club's management. However, it has been agreed that Been and the players will avoid the media for the time being.
A spokesman commented, “There's no question of muzzling anyone. We just want to give Mario and the team some protection for a while so they can concentrate on Wednesday's important match against VVV Venlo.”
The chairman of the Feyenoord supporters association told regional radio that the departure of the popular coach would not solve the club's current malaise. “Winning against VVV on Wednesday will. We're counting on massive support from the fans.”
