Feyenoord deny that trainer has been fired
Dutch Premier Division football club Feyenoord have denied reports in the press on Wednesday that they have fired their trainer Gertjan Verbeek.
AMSTERDAM-- However the Rotterdam club's head of communications, Raymond Salomon, admitted that the situation could change at any moment. 'We are still talking', he said.
On Wednesday morning, a series of meetings took place between the coach and his players, the players and management, and the coach and management. Afterwards a number of senior players left the stadium after refusing to speak to waiting journalists.
Salomon could give no indication about how long the meeting between the coach and the Board might last, saying that it could go on for several hours or be over in a couple of minutes. But he insisted that no decision has yet been taken on Mr Verbeek's future.
These developments come in the wake of Feyenoord's poor performance in the first half of the season. Normally in the top three in the country, Feyenoord currently stand in 12th position, having won only five and lost eight of their 17 matches so far, scoring 30 goals but conceding 26.
