DRIEBERGEN – The police held alcohol checks at numerous locations along the motorways on Thursday night. Of the 7,454 motorists checked, 45 had drunk too much, six of them had only obtained their license recently.

Seven of the 45 motorists had their license immediately suspended for driving under the influence, the police reported on Friday.

134 tickets were also issued for speeding violations and other traffic offences. One recently licensed motorist on the A58 gave police such a hard time that he was taken in to the police station.

A motorist stopped on the A2 near Beesd was found driving under the influence while on probation. He had already followed a compulsory course on alcohol abuse but had once again had too much to drink before getting behind the wheel. One tractor trailer driver had his license suspended for driving while intoxicated.

The checks took place on the A4/N11 motorway near Leiden, the A2 near Beesd and Maasdriel, the N244 near Renkum, the A12 near Oosterbeek, the A28 near De Wolden, and the A58 near Rucphen.
