WESTDORPE – The body found in a car pulled from a canal near Westdorpe is almost certainly that of 41-year-old Aarnout Z.

Police said this on Thursday. An autopsy on Friday should provide certainty on the man's identity.

The man is suspected of killing his two children in Roosendaal almost three weeks ago. He disappeared after the incident. It took police a day and a half to pull the car from the canal. A 38-year-old diver of the Terneuzen fire brigade lost his life on Wednesday during the salvage operation.
Police said it was difficult to identify the body on Thursday evening. "It is almost certainly the body of Aarnout Z. however".

The public prosecution department in Breda believes the man committed suicide. Public prosecutor said that Z. left several letters behind in which he said goodbye to family and friends. They did not contain a motive however. Nor do they make any mentioned of the children's deaths. The mother has been ruled out as a suspect.
