16 April 2007, AMSTERDAM - Passers-by managed to save a mother and her two children from drowning on Sunday. The woman jumped in the Jacob Catskade canal with her two children aged one and five.

AMSTERDAM - Passers-by managed to save a mother and her two children from drowning on Sunday. The woman jumped in the Jacob Catskade canal with her two children aged one and five.

Police say they have indications the woman wanted to drown the children, said a spokesperson.

The three were pulled from the water by passers-by on the side of the canal. The woman was unhurt, but the children had to be taken to hospital in critical condition. They are now in stable condition.

The police say the woman appeared very confused when questioned.
