False alarm at Amsterdam airport

1st September 2010, Comments 0 comments

US officials say the two Yemenis arrested at Amsterdam Schiphol airport yesterday are probably not part of a terrorist plot. American researchers do not believe that the two men, who both live in the US, wanted to test aviation security. According to the Department of Homeland Security, there is no evidence they even knew each other.

The FBI thinks the Yemenis missed their connecting flights to Washington from Chicago, which is probably how the luggage of one of the men ended up on the plane to Washington.

Ahmad Mohamed Nasser al-Soofi and Hezam al-Murisi aroused suspicion after US authorities spotted "suspicious items" in their luggage and found their flight schedules unclear. They were in transit to Yemen.
