FC Utrecht has reached the fourth round of the cup tournament after a hard-won victory over De Graafschap. It took coach Ton du Chatinier's squad no less than 120 minutes and a series of penalties to beat the team from eastern town of Doetinchem. Regular playing time ended in a 1-1 draw and no goals were scored in extra time.

Jacob Mulenga scored for FC Utrecht 20 minutes before the final whistle, but Sjoerd Overgoor scored the equaliser for De Graafschap just three minutes before the end of regular playing time. In the series of penalties, both Jan-Paul Saeijs and Hugo Bargas failed to score for De Graafschap; Gianluca Nijholt did the same on behalf of FC Utrecht. His team mate Tim Cornelisse eventually scored the deciding goal.
