Just over a week since FC Twente lost the premier league title to Ajax, its best player is leaving the former champion for the new one.

Top scorer Theo Janssen is considered to be the best premier league player this year. On Monday, agreements for his transfer to Amsterdam's Ajax team were finalised.

Janssen has signed a two-year contract with Ajax. If the star player is still fit Ajax has an option to sign him for a third year. However, at 29 years old, his older age and his lifestyle have contributed to expections that he will not continue to play top football for much longer.

Theo Janssen played at FC Twente for three years and leaves the club as one of its greats. With Janssen, FC Twente won the Premier League title for the fist time in its history, the Johan Cruijff Shield and the Dutch Cup.

Theo Janssen did not hesitate when Ajax showed interest in the star player. "It was clear that trainer Frank de Boer wanted me. The choice was logical."

FC Twente chairman Joop Munsterman said, "We have a lot of respect for what Theo has done for us in the last three years. He got better every season. As a result, he was chosen for the Holland squad and became player of the year. We wish Theo lots of luck with his career."
