In Thursday’s Europa League matches, FC Utrecht only managed a 1-1 draw at home against Romania’s Steaua Bucharest, while PSV delivered a 2-1 win against Hungarian champions Debrecen. AZ suffered defeat at the hands of Ukraine's Dynamo Kyiv.

For FC Utrecht, it was the third consecutive draw of the tournament. Earlier matches against Napoli and Liverpool ended in 0-0.

One hour into the match, Edouard Duplan scored FC Utrecht’s first goal in the group phase of the Europa League. But hopes of victory were dashed when FC Utrecht defender Alje Schut scored an own goal 15 minutes before the final whistle. The two teams will meet again in Romania on 4 November.

PSV’s win against Debrecen takes the Dutch Premier League leaders to the top of its group, with seven points from three matches.

PSV surprisingly fell behind when Mirsad Mijadinoski scored in the 35th minute, but it only took five minutes for Orlando Engelaar to equalise. Jonathan Reis scored the deciding goal halfway through the second half.

In two weeks PSV will play the return match against Debrecen, who have yet to notch up a point in the tournament.

Despite many chances to score in the closing phase, Alkmaar's AZ could not turn around the 2-1 advantage that opponents Dynamo Kyiv established in the first half of the match. The Ukrainians' win puts them ahead of AZ in their group.
