APELDOORN – The ape that escaped on Wednesday from the Apenheul animal park in Apeldoorn has been captured.
The Javanese lutung was found in the Koningin Julianatoren family amusement park not far from Apenheul, spokespeople from the two parks said on Friday.
The orange-coloured ape was shot out of a tree with a tranquilliser gun. A few dozen employees of the two parks then managed to capture him.
The lutung, named Doerian, seems to have come through his adventure in sound condition.
Doerian was found on Friday morning in the amusement park. "He may have spent the night here. He was spotted above the carousel, and then he climbed the tree. He stayed there calmly until he was captured," a park spokesperson said.
