An opinion poll shows that nearly 75 percent of Dutch Catholics want Pope Benedict XVI to admit that he made a mistake in rehabilitating British Bishop Richard Williamson.

THE NETHERLANDS - The British ultraconservative cleric said the Nazis did not use gas chambers during the Second World War.

More than half of the interviewed people said they were angry and disappointed and did not feel as close to the pontiff as they did previously.

The pope has asked Bishop Williamson to retract his comments.

However, the bishop has refused; he said he would further study the issue.
