AMSTERDAM – It is “easy as child’s play” to vote repeatedly at the same polling station, a Metro reporter discovered on Wednesday.

He managed to vote five times with different voting cards, four of these times at the same voting station.

Officially voters may only vote at one polling station with a voting card on which their name appears. The chairman of the polling station is authorised to ask for identification. But in practice this happens extremely seldom, if ever.

Henk Klijsen, metropolitan coordinator of the polling stations, said this was a “gap” in the legislation on voting.

“Everyone is required to identify themselves these days. Why not during elections?” he asks.
