Builders in Eindhoven were pelted with stones on Thursday night and Friday morning as they were driving pilings home beside the Philips football stadium.

EINDHOVEN - It's thought the stones were thrown by angry local residents. The builders had been given permission to work until 6.00 p.m. but continued long after the deadline had passed.

In addition, residents had just received a letter informing them that the building works would last an extra three weeks.

Dozens of residents say the pile driving has caused them health problems.

Many say they are suffering from headaches and sleeplessness and are having difficulty concentrating.

They have brought a legal action against the city council to put an end to the building work.
