AMSTERDAM — Automobile association ANWB has warned that Dutch roads will be busier than usual as an estimated 600,000 people prepare to enjoy the Easter break out of town.

Tens of thousands of tourists are also expected in the Netherlands over the long Easter weekend.

The ANWB forecast traffic near the Veluwe woods and the Province of Zeeland will be particularly heavy at midday on Good Friday. The annual flower market (Bloemenjaarmarkt) in Groningen is expected to attract 150,000 visitors, leading to delays on the A7 motorway.

Traffic jams on Easter Sunday will be concentrated on the south of Limburg Province due to the Amstel Gold cycling race.

One-day events and tourists returning home will cause long tailbacks on Easter Monday. Tourists will take to the roads early on Monday if the weather is bad, while good weather will put the worst traffic jams off to the afternoon and evening. The ANWB warned the motorways in France, Germany and Belgium will also be busy over Easter.
