21 March 2007, AMSTERDAM – A colourful assortment of people will be attending the official Dutch festivities on Thursday to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the European Union.

AMSTERDAM – A colourful assortment of people will be attending the official Dutch festivities on Thursday to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the European Union.

Footballer Edgar Davids, NATO Secretary general Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, television presenter Sophie Hilbrand and EU Commissioner for competition Neelie Kroes will all be on hand at the Ridderzaal on the Binnenhof in The Hague.

Queen Beatrix and Prince Constantijn will also attend.

The guest list includes artists, people from the business sector, scientists, officials and (former) politicians. Some 210 school students will also be joining in the celebration.
