Dutchman tortured and murdered in Paraguay
A 69-year-old Dutchman has been found dead in the Paraguayan capital Asunción. Authorities suspect he was first tortured and then murdered. The Public Prosecutor’s Office, which has launched an investigation into the case, believes theft was the motivation for the murder, Paraguayan media reported on Thursday.
The body of the Dutchman, who had apparently been living in Paraguay for two years, was discovered by his girlfriend at his home on Wednesday. Police say they found an open bottle of wine on the scene of the crime.
The dead man probably had acquaintances round in his house before being murdered, they added. Apparently, the Dutchman put up a fight during the attack. There was considerable damage done to the house and some pieces of furniture were ruined. The man was last seen on Monday.
Police have found no trace of the killers.
