AMSTERDAM — A 19-year-old Dutchman was due to appear in an Australian court on Wednesday on charges he killed a female jogger when he lost control of his car.

The man has been charged with culpable homicide due to negligent driving. He is alleged to have lost control of his car on Saturday morning (local time).

The accident occurred on a freeway near the town of Maroochydore, in the north of Australia along the Sunshine Coast, news agency ANP reported.

Two women were jogging along the freeway when the Dutchman — who was in Australia on a working permit — allegedly lost control of the car on an s-bend and hit the 36-year-old woman.

Attempts to reanimate the woman failed and she died en route to the hospital.
Australian public broadcaster ABC said the man was required to surrender his passport to justice officials.
