AMSTERDAM — Sentenced to life in a Thai prison on drugs charges, Dutchman Machiel Kuijt has lodged a last ditch appeal for freedom, but it will take two or tree years before the hearing is heard.

Amid Dutch outrage against Monday's announcement of a life sentence ruling on Monday, Thai ambassador Vasin Teeravechyan has since said on TV programme Stem van Nederland (Voice of the Netherlands) that new evidence was levelled against the Dutchman.
