A court in Breda has sentenced two teenagers to 20 months youth detention, five of them conditional, for killing a 42-year-old man in the Spanish resort Lloret de Mar in July 2008. The prosecution had called for a two-year sentence.

The young men, who were 16 at the time, got into a fight with the Spaniard who they say tried to steal a wallet. The Spanish authorities handed the case over to the Dutch authorities because of the age of the defendants.

The lawyer of one of the defendants was satisfied with the sentence, but says he will review the verdict

The judge handed down a lower sentence because of the young age of the defendants when the incident took place. He also ruled that the two young men appeared to have got their lives in order since then.

Lloret de Mar is a popular resort among young Dutch holiday makers.
