AMSTERDAM – 70 percent of the Dutch think that the queen should hand over her responsibilities to Crown Prince Willem-Alexander within the next three years.

The crown prince is fit to be king, says 80 percent of those asked, according to a survey by Interview/NSS and NOS on Monday.

77 percent of the Dutch want the monarchy to continue. Most are also pleased with the degree to which the queen can influence politics. A quarter thinks she should not have any role in politics however.

As in earlier surveys, Máxima remains the most popular member of the royal family, followed by Willem-Alexander, Queen Beatrix and Princess Laurentien.
