At least eight people - four Dutch, two Belgian and two Peruvian - have been killed in a road traffic accident in Peru. The Peruvian passengers and foreign tourists were travelling in a bus which was involved in a head-on collision with a goods vehicle.

There were 33 people on the bus. Reports say more than 25 people were injured in the accident and have been taken to hospital. The collision is thought to have been caused by a second bus as it attempted to overtake. The drivers of both the bus and lorry were killed.

The accident happened in the south of Peru, near the border with Bolivia, in the vicinity of Lake Titicaca, a popular tourist attraction.
