A dutch man was shot in the leg after he stood up to a group of gunmen robbing a couple of dozen tourists camping overnight near the Caral archeological site in northern Peru, local police said Friday.

The armed robbers took all the belongings of 58-year-old Tjor Wolveda, as well as those of his 24 compatriots and one Briton sharing the campsite, and fled into the night, police in nearby Supe said.

Wolveda, who was also struck by one of the robbers before he was shot, was recovering from his wound at an area hospital, they added.
