Dutch teams successful in Europa League

In the Europa League, PSV won its second Group C match on Thursday evening. In Romania, the team from Eindhoven beat Rapid Bucharest 3-1.

Dan Alexa put Rapid in the lead a half hour into the game. Shortly after the break defender Wilfred Bouma equalised after a free kick from Kevin Strootman. Strootman also assisted Ola Toivonen’s goal at the end of the second half. Tim Matavz scored the third and final goal for PSV in injury time. PSV, which beat Legia Warsaw 1-0 two weeks ago, leads Group C with six points.

Meanwhile in Ukraine, AZ picked up a point after drawing 1-1 with Metalist Charkov. Jozy Altidore opened the scoring in the 26th minute after a clever pass by Ragnar Klavan. But 15 minutes later Taison scored the equaliser. The teams from Alkmaar and Charkov both top Group G with 4 points.

Back in the Netherlands, FC Twente won its first victory this season in the Europa League. Co Andriaanse’s team beat Wisla Krakow, 4-1 at home.

At half time, FC Twente led the match 2-1. David Biton had put the Poles ahead early on in the game. Luuk de Jong scored the equaliser, followed by a goal from Marc Janko. The Austrian scored the third goal for the Enschede team after the break. Willem Janssen put the ball in net for the fourth time. FC Twente has four points putting the Tukkers on equal pegging with Fulham in Group K.

Police arrested 24 football supporters for various offences in Enschede. Most of those arrested were Poles 22, 11 of them were caught carrying knives.    nc
