Dutch sports minister wants fair play from FIFA
Dutch Sports Minister Edith Schippers thinks World football association FIFA should get its house back in order. Ms Schippers told parliament during a debate on Wednesday on the the failed Belgium-Dutch bid to organise The World Cup in 2018 that she wanted to be rid of the "smell of corruption that is hanging around FIFA".
However, she said rumours are not enough and there should be an investigation into the allegations made by the BBC in the run up to the announcement of the successful bid. She said she thinks FIFA which wants fair play on the field, should make sure it is fair in how it allocates major tournaments.
The minister promised to raise the issue with the FIFA and hopes for support from other European countries.
Last week FIFA announced the World Cup will be held in Russia in 2018 and in Qatar in 2022. FIFA presdient Sepp Blatter has accused the English of being bad losers after cricism following its failed bid, however he has said he wants to clean up FIFA's image.
Two FIFA members were banned from voting after the BBC revelations.
