AMSTERDAM — Four Dutch soldiers were injured on Tuesday when the vehicle in which they were travelling crashed off the road and landed in water.

Three escaped with light injuries but one soldier was treated for arterial bleeding. His life is not in danger, the Defence Ministry in The Hague said.

The accident occurred about 85 kilometres from the Dutch base in Pol-e-Khomri in the northern province of Baghlan. A Dutch Chinook helicopter brought the men to hospital in Mazar-e Sharif.

The soldiers were part of a four-vehicle convoy. Their unit is attached to a provincial reconstruction team.

The Netherlands has 267 troops in Afghanistan as part of the international stabilisation mission Operation Enduring Freedom.
