THE NETHERLANDS - A survey of 261 members of military unions shows that half the Dutch military believe the mission in Afghanistan is pointless.
The Chairman of the Association of Dutch Officers and former army commander Hans Couzy called the survey results worrying: "The bosses say it’s worthwhile and that things are fine, but if you ask people anonymously, most of them say it’s pointless".
The survey also shows that three-quarters of those interviewed do not have an accurate picture of the situation in Afghanistan, while more than half feel they do not have the support of politics.
Most of the soldiers say they have the support of their immediate environment, but do not feel supported by the Dutch people.
