AMSTERDAM - A Dutch soldier sustained minor injuries in the Afghan province of Uruzgan this morning. The soldier suffered injury to his hand after touching an explosive which promptly detonated.

The accident took place outside the Dutch base Kamp Holland near the provincial capital of Tarin Kowt.

The ministry of defence says the explosive was probably a remnant of old Russian munitions. The wounded man has been in contact with his family. The Marechaussee is investigating the accident.
