President Robbert Dijkgraaf of the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences KNAW announced the Dutch academic agenda Monday.

The programme addresses 49 questions brought up by Dutch scientists including: Is it possible for a living cell to be built in a laboratory? How is cultural integration different than in the past? Can we trust our electronic technology?

The research is concentrated to fields where Dutch scientists excel and where scientific breakthroughs are expected in the next 10 years.

Universities and colleges have to raise their profile both in teaching and research, said Dijkgraaf Monday, adding that institutions must also work together by joining forces in certain disciplines. Already, there are plans for cooperation in the fields of physics and chemistry.
