Dutch rowers rescued from Atlantic Ocean
Dutch rower Tom Sauer and his team mate Tom Fancett were rescued by a cruise ship after their boat capsized in the Atlantic Ocean on Tuesday.
After eight days at sea, ‘Team Tom’ was surprised by an exceptionally large wave. Their boat capsized and sank right before their eyes. The two rowers were just barely able to grab their life raft, life jackets and emergency bag. They then floated about in their life raft for ten hours before being rescued by the cruise ship
"We are obviously very disappointed that the boat sank, but first and foremost very happy to have survived and very grateful to our rescuers,” Sauer and Fancett said in a first reaction.
The two rowers were taking part in the Atlantic Rowing Race, over 2,539 nautical miles 4,702 kilometres from the La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Barbados in the Caribbean. They are now en route to St Maarten aboard the .
