THE NETHERLANDS - The Dutch railway company NS will install close circuit cameras on all trains in the coming years. The new Sprinters which will be introduced at the end of this year will be the first trains with cameras.
The NS wants to be able to see exactly what happened when an incident occurs and to increase the feeling of security in the train. Many trams, buses and metro trains already have close circuit cameras.
Every year, the railways record 4,400 incidents of vandalism and misconduct by passengers. In addition there are another 600 violent incidents some involving the use of weapons.
