Dutch railway police crack down on night trains

Over 130 passengers were fined Saturday night for public intoxication and misbehaviour while eight were arrested for resisting the fines.

THE NETHERLANDS – Eight people were arrested and 135 fined for misbehaving on the night trains running between Breda, Rotterdam and The Hague on Saturday night.

The railway police were making patrols on night trains when they issued 135 on-the-spot fines, mainly for public drunkenness, smoking, urinating in public and for inability to produce valid identification.

Eight people were arrested for their violent reactions to being fined. One passenger pushed an officer when being told he would be handed a fine. Another passenger, a 27-year-old man, reaction was so violent that he had to be incapacitated with pepper spray.
