AMSTERDAM - Dutch quality newspaper NRC Handelsblad is the first Dutch daily to release its entire newspaper electronically.

Subscribers to the e-paper can now download the entire newspaper daily from 3 pm onwards, within 20 seconds via a WiFi-connection. The newspaper content can be read any given time.

At present, only owners of the so-called iLiad e-reader, an electronic reading device developed by Dutch manufacturer iRex Technologies, can subscribe to the e-paper.

However, NRC Handelsblad says this will change in future, so that the e-paper can also be read all electronic reading devices.

NRC Handelsblad director-publisher Gert Jan Oelderik said the decision was made due to an "increased market for e-readers."

"Today most of the material available is books, but reading newspapers is also a flexible and mobile solution."
