Dutch pump EUR 8m to life on Mars mission

The Netherlands is providing EUR 8 million to the next European mission in 2014 to find out if there was ever life on Mars.

THE NETHERLANDS - The Netherlands is to contribute EUR 8 million to the next European mission to Mars in 2014.

The mission will send a special vehicle the size of a small car to explore the surface of the planet, and find out whether there was ever life on Mars.

The vehicle the European Space Agency (ESA) is building will carry several instruments specially developed for the mission.

The EUR 8 million provided by the Netherlands will fund three such instruments, and later this year ESA will select one of them for construction.
