Dutch poll: euro zone collapse inevitable

7th August 2011, Comments 0 comments

A vast majority of the Dutch sees the break-up of the euro zone as inevitable, a national survey suggests.

Only 32 percent of respondents expect the euro zone to survive the current crisis. Many of those surveyed are critical about both the euro and the way the European Union is handling the debt crisis.

Support for the different political parties remains otherwise unchanged. The governing conservative VVD party and the anti-Islam Freedom Party remain the country’s two largest parties, with 32 and 28 seats respectively.

However, in the poll, the two parties and the Christian Democrats, the coalition’s junior partner, only get 75 seats, one short of the majority they currently have in parliament.
