Dutch police fine US pilot for alcohol use
Dutch police apprehended a US pilot in his cockpit Tuesday for having alcohol in his system just minutes before he was to take an airliner to the skies, a statement said.
The 52-year-old from Woodbury, New Jersey, "was in the cockpit of a plane from a foreign airline that was about to take off" from Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, Dutch police said in a statement.
Police acting on an anonymous tip, found the captain had "consumed too much alcohol".
Pilots are not allowed to drink any alcohol within 10 hours before a flight.
The flight with 200 passengers was delayed and the pilot fined 700 euros (about 910 dollars), the statement said.
