AMSTERDAM – The Dutch will be celebrating their summer holidays en masse in May this year. The number of bookings for typical summer destinations during the May holiday weeks are several tens of percentage points higher than last year.

The Nederlands Dagblad reports this on Thursday. Especially households with children will be making the most of the favourable timing of the May holiday this year. Most schools are giving two weeks holiday.

The association of travel organisations ANVR thinks that people are also trying to avoid paying the flight tax that comes into effect on 1 July.
