Dutch paedophile gets 3 years
The chairman of the Martijn group, which champions the rights of paedophiles, has been sentenced to three years in prison for possession of a large amount of child pornography. Six months of the sentence is suspended.
The prosecution had called for him to be given four years, with eight suspended.
The 67-year-old man had been held in custody for six months while the child pornography on his computer was investigated. Thousands of films and 130,000 photos featuring child pornography were discovered. He himself featured in the porn 13,000 times.
His house was raided in December and computers and hard disks were confiscated. He admitted having child pornography but claimed the images were “for scientific research”.
He was not prosecuted for taking part in some of the child abuse featured because the offences had taken place too long ago to go to court.
Ban Many have called for the paedophile group, Martijn, to be banned and MPs are due to debate the issue soon.
The Public Prosecutor’s office says there’s no reason to ban or prosecute the group, explaining that there is no evidence to suggest criminal offences are being committed via its website.
