Dutch owner closes exclusive Gabon resort

The Dutch owner of Loango Lodge, an exclusive holiday resort in the west African country of Gabon, says it is to close 1 September.

Because the lodge is so difficult to reach the owner, Rombout Swanborn, always brought guests to and from it by his own airplanes. However, despite extensive negotiations with the Gabonese authorities, the privately-owned company SCD Aviation is to be granted no further licences for flights. Therefore the resort is to close, a decision Mr Swanborn says he regrets.

His holiday resorts in the west African republic of São Tomé and Principe, and in the Central African Republic – both part of the Africa’s Eden company - will remain open.
