The first day of organ donor week in the Netherlands has produced a record number of new registrations. 1,200 new donors were recruited between 12 noon and 8 pm.

The previous record holder cited by the Guinness Book of World Records is the University of Utah, which recruited 765 new donors in the space of eight hours in July 2010.

The donor campaign, involving a number of Dutch celebrities, will continue all week.
