Suspect in fatal burglary kills himself

A 22-year man from Flevoland who was suspected of involvement in the death of a woman, 88, in Amsterdam killed himself in his cell on Tuesday. He was one of three people accused of taking part in a burglary at the woman's home in the Geuzenveld district on 28 December. The woman suffered a heart attack and died. Police arrested the 22-year-old man and a 25-year-old man last Friday. Another man, 37, was arrested on Monday. 

Shooting in shopping street

Two men were arrested after exchanging gunshoots in a busy shopping street in the northern city of Leeuwarden on Tuesday. "Luckily they were bad shots because nobody was injured," a police spokesperson said. The incident is under investigation.

US Ambassador supports work for immigrants

US Ambassador Roland E. Arnall said during a meeting with the Dutch media on Wednesday that he will work with the Dutch business sector to create more work for young people from immigrant backgrounds. Arnall was sworn in as Ambassador to the Netherrtlands by Secretary Condoleeza Rice on 27 February and he presented his credentials to Queen Beatrix on 6 March.
