Dutch navy accused of maltreating pirate
A Somalian pirate standing trial at a court in the German city of Hamburg has leveled serious accusations at the Dutch navy which arrested him off the African coast in April 2010.
The lawyer of the 24-year-old pirate read out a statement in court in which the accused says that Dutch sailors tied him naked to a chair. “ I was treated in a most humiliating manner” the pirate wrote. At the time, the Dutch navy relieved the hijacked german freighter Taipan and took 10 Somali pirates prisoner, who are now on trial in Hamburg.
